1. Can I get help with a resume?
Yes. Resume services are available by appointment or on a
walk-in basis. If you will need extensive assistance, an appointment
is recommended. We can help with something as simple as
proofreading and making suggestions or help you from start to finish.

2. How long will my resume be kept?
At this time, we have no intentions of getting rid of older resumes that are saved on our disks. We realize that you may be in a job for a period of time and not need it for several years. You may come in to update your resume any time.

3. Is it OK to bring in my own disk or CD?
Yes. Our computers are protected with antivirus programs to ensure safety. You may bring your resume from home to print, and/or take home a copy of the resumes we assist you with.

4. Can I get copies of my resume?
Yes. We will give you as many copies as you will reasonably use. You may return for more copies as often as you need to. If you would like to bring in some special resume paper, you may use it in our printers.

5. What is SCOTI?
SCOTI is a job matching system supported by the state. The type of work you seek will be matched with employer postings. You will be notified by telephone or mail about postings that match your information.

6. Can I get help with further schooling?
In some cases, yes. If you are interested in exploring the possibility of assistance with schooling, you should contact an employment counselor for an appointment.

7. Is a diploma or GED necessary?
These days, absolutely. While a diploma or GED may not be necessary to do a specific job, there has been a major change with the insurance companies. If the company's insurance provider requires a diploma or GED, they will not be able to hire you without one.

8. How do I get a GED?
Our partner, the ABLE program, will assist you in getting your GED. If you follow their recommendations, it will not cost you anything. You may take the test without going through their program, but there is a fee.

9. How do I apply for Unemployment?
You may apply by telephone at 1-877-644-6562 or by computer at unemployment.ohio.gov.

10. Is there an income limit for help at the Job Center?
No. Absolutely anyone may come into the Job Centers at any time for assistance. The only service that is income regulated is paid schooling.

11. Am I eligible to use Job Center services and resources if I am working?
Yes. You can definitely use the Job Center services and resources. In some cases, you may still be eligible for paid training as well.

12. Does the Job Center offer computer classes?
In partnership with Upper Valley JVS - ABLE Program, Miami County offers an Introduction to Computers Classes.

13. Is there an age limit to go through the WIA Program for educational assistance?
Job Center services are available to anyone of any age. Paid educational assistance may be available for eligible adults or dislocated workers with a high school diploma or GED ages 18 and up. Youth programs are available with a primary focus on youth ages 19-21 who do not have a diploma or GED and are no longer in school.

14. How do I begin the financial aid process?
The Job Center Network staff can help you apply for a PIN # to use with an on-line FAFSA application. Brochures are available to guide individuals through the FAFSA process.

15. I have a disability and am having trouble finding employment. Can someone help me?
The Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission works with individuals dealing with a wide range of mental, physical, emotional, and learning disabilities. Referral forms are available at the Job Center.

16. I have a felony. Is there help available for me?
Yes. Though this will make your ability to obtain work more challenging, we are able to help you prepare for job search and to answer questions related to your felony. We also have a short list of employers available who work with felons. If you are on parole, Citizen Circles may help. Usually it is the employer's insurance company that is setting this limitation. It is not always an option for the employer to give you a chance. Some companies will look at the specific conviction and time span before making a decision.

17. I am hearing/sight impaired. Can I use the Job Center?
A TTY telephone and a computer with Smart View software are available in the Darke County Resource Room to individuals with disabilities.

18. I need help with childcare and housing. Who can help?
We can refer you to a partner agency that assists with housing/childcare needs and can also provide you with a JFS housing/childcare list.
